A dog was placed in a whelping box that had not been cleaned and sanitized between the last litter. Used primary enclosures need to be sanitized before they can house another dog. This enclosure needs to be cleaned for the health of the dog. Correct by: April 1, 2014

Many of the feeders were dirty with a layer of grime and debris under the lip of the feeder. Some of the feeders had food that was damp and starting to cake at the bottom of the receptacle. These feeders need to be cleaned and sanitized more frequently to reduce this debris and for the health of the animals. Correct by: April 4, 2014

Several of the enclosures have excess hair, dust and debris in the wire mesh from the fan in the kennel area.

Also a few enclosures are empty but have not been cleaned and the feeders in the empty enclosures are full of food.

The room storing food and dog crates needs to be cleaned. There is excess food on the floor that needs to be swept up and there is miscellaneous boxes and items in the back corner that need to be moved. This room needs to be kept neat and free of clutter to facilitate cleaning the area. Correct by: April 5, 2015

Two puppies in the puppy room a Sheba and a Basenji are housed in enclosures that do not provide 6 inches of height higher than the dog when the dog is standing in a normal position. These dogs need to be moved to an enclosure that meets the space requirements for their comfort. Correct by: April 5, 2015

The current exercise plan for the facility states that all dogs are housed in enclosures that meet the required floor space for exercise. An American Eskimo measuring 30 inches is housed in a 16 square foot enclosure and requires 18 square feet of space to meet the exercise plan. This dog either needs to be moved to an enclosure that meets the space requirements or needs to be provided the opportunity to exercise daily for its health and well being. Correct by: April 5, 2015

The puppy room needs to be cleaned. The floor underneath the enclosures against the wall have a build up of excess food and some waste that needs to be removed. In addition there are a few enclosures that are no longer being used but there is food and waste in the bottom trays. These areas need to be kept clean on a routine basis to promote good housekeeping practices. Correct by: April 5, 2015

Several of the dogs have matted fur that needs to be groomed. … In addition several of the dogs have long nails that need to be trimmed.

1.dog # 120 has matted fur around the face and anal region with feces trapped in the fur.

2.dog # 2536506 a poodle has matted fur around his legs.

3.dog # 072514278 male has matted fur behind the ears and has no teeth.

4. dog # 88 Millie a sheba has long nails that need to be trimmed.

Duke #71 has some pressure sores developing on the back legs.

Several of the dogs had teeth that were varying stages of dental disease. Many had tarter build up and some of the dogs had receding gum lines and a few dogs had lost several teeth.

At least 20 enclosures had feeders that contained feces in the feeders.

In addition one dog was retching in the enclosure and that particular dog would often eat its own feces or a cagemates feces.

Whelping box #4 has a section of wire mesh over the bottom of the box that is losing the coating off the wire and is showing signs of rust.

One of the older puppy enclosures in the center of the kennel has lost the support beam under the bottom wire mesh. This is causing the bottom wire to sag under the weight of the dogs.

Several of the whelping boxes have chewed edges around the door openings between the box and the wire mesh. These chewed edges have sharp edges that could pose a potential hazard to the dogs. These edges need to be sanded down and kept in good repair for the safety of the dogs. Correct by: April 1, 2016

The whelping boxes that have wire mesh for the puppys in the boxes are not being picked up so the box can be cleaned daily underneath. A few of these boxes have hair and urine that needs to be cleaned for the health of the dogs. In addition a few of the large breed whelping boxes have an excessive amount of fur that is being shed out and not removed. These boxes need to be spot cleaned daily for the health of the animals. Correct by: end of business day and daily from this point forward.

Approximately 20 plus feeders had feces in the feeders with the food. The facility states that that dogs are putting the feces in the feeders and they remove the feces at least once a day. Additionally the feeders have a layer of grime on the top of the feeder and into the feeder on the metal lip that controls flow of feed. These feeders need to be cleaned and sanitized more frequently to reduce this accumulation of grime and to prevent contamination due to feces in feeders.

The facility has several hundred adult dogs and only two adults working in the facility. Based on the number of non- compliant items in this report there is evidence to support that the facility does not have enough employees to carry out the level of husbandry practices and care required for this many animals. This needs to be addressed for the welfare of the dogs. Correct by: April 10, 2016

There a few wood boards on the ceiling that need to be sealed and impervious to moisture to facilitate cleaning of the facility.

There are a few sections of the whelping boxes where the material between the door to the box and wire mesh are no longer sealed and impervious to moisture.

Approximately 10 percent of the dogs were identified with moderate to severe dental disease on their annual exam on April 13, 2024. However, their individual medical records do not indicate a plan for treatment and care. Although the program of veterinary care states that licensee will "scale" the teeth as needed, there is no documentation on any of the affected dog's medical records indicating that their severity of dental disease warrants "scaling" of the teeth nor is there any documentation that this treatment was performed. It is important to document all planned treatments and procedures performed on individual dogs that have had a problem identified on their physical exam to ensure they are receiving appropriate veterinary care. Correct by May 30, 2024

The current flooring for the whelping box enclosures do not protect the dogs feet and legs from injury. Several of the whelping enclosures (WB33, WB53 and WB55) have coated wire mesh flooring that is allowing the puppies feet to fall through the wire mesh. This is a potential hazard which could lead to injury of their feet or legs. Per this regulation, floors that are wire mesh must not allow dogs feet to fall through.
