Female Maltese loose premolar, exposed root (Direct)
An adult female maltese named "Annie" (#337, DOB 7/3/19), randomly pulled for examination, had a loose premolar on the upper right side of its mouth. The gumline had receded considerably for this tooth and the root was exposed. In addition, there was a moderate amount of tartar buildup on both sides of its mouth. The licensee had not observed this prior to inspection. Dental issues can be painful and can lead to infection which can become systemic. Daily observation must be done for all animals to assess their health and well-being and a mechanism of direct and frequent communication is required so that timely and accurate information on problems of animal health, behavior, and well-being is conveyed to the attending veterinarian. The attending veterinarian must be contacted and the dog must be treated as per his/her instructions. Correct by 5/20/26 or prior to your next scheduled relicense inspection, whichever comes first.
