A female, adult black Scottish terrier, ID# 61, has an area of hair loss on both sides along the ribs, approximately four inches long by 1 ½ inches wide. At the ends of these areas closest to the rear, the skin appears to be dry and flakey, with an area approximately one inch by one inch that has a brownish crust. The licensee states she has observed the dog rubbing against the chain-link divider wall, but thought it was due to the dog's loss of a mate. She has not consulted a veterinarian about this issue. Skin problems can be caused from allergies, parasites or infection, can be itchy or painful, and can affect the well-being of the dog. The licensee must consult with a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and to develop and follow a treatment plan. The licensee must document the veterinarians findings; the treatment plan that is followed, and have the records available to the inspector upon request. To be corrected by: April 15, 2014.

In an outdoor enclosure housing two dogs, there is a plastic shelter structure with corners that are chewed and roughened. These rough surfaces make it difficult to be properly cleaned and sanitized. The licensee must maintain all surfaces in direct contact with the dogs on a regular basis, and surfaces that are worn must be repaired or replaced. To be corrected by May 6, 2014.

The outdoor enclosure housing "Nellie", a female boxer, has a 4 inch section at the lower left side of the shelter entrance where the metal is rusted. Rusted metal surfaces can not be adequately cleaned and sanitized and could harbor bacteria or other infectious organisms that could cause disease. All surfaces that come in contact with dogs must be free of excessive rust that prevents the required cleaning and sanitation, or that affects the structural strength of the surface.

Nine outdoor enclosures housing 11 dogs and 9 puppies have shelters that do not have wind and rain breaks at the entrance. Wind and rain breaks on shelter entrances provide important protection from the elements for dogs housed outdoors. Without them, dogs are potentially exposed to rain, snow, and wind that could cause physical stress and detrimentally effect their health and well-being.. All shelters in outdoor enclosures must be provided with a wind break and rain break at the entrance.

The Program of Veterinary Care does not include a plan for sampling for parasites. Sampling for parasites (Heartworm and intestinal) is important to ensure prevention and treatment schedules are effective in protecting dogs and puppies from the disease and health issues these parasites cause. The Program of Veterinary Care must include a plan for sampling for parasites (including frequency and numbers to be tested) in accordance with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian,. This is a 1st Re-License Inspection for a Class “A” license.

Whelping building needs more rodent control.
