There are four primary enclosures currently housing 8 adult dogs that have vertical support poles on the northern end of the outdoor portion of the enclosure that are made of wood. These poles have large areas of chipped or missing paint. The area with missing paint is exposing the raw unsealed wood underneath that appears green in appearance due to moisture exposure. Surfaces made of unsealed wood cannot be properly cleaned or sanitized when permeable to moisture. The licensee must ensure that all walls, boxes, houses, dens, and other surfaces in contact with animals are impervious to moisture. A primary enclosure housing 2 adult dogs was observed with approximately 20-30 piles of excreta throughout the outdoor portion of the enclosure. The excreta observed in the primary enclosure varied in appearance from fresh with a moist appearance to dry with two of the piles appearing very dry and chalky white in color indicating feces is not being removed daily as required. Failure to remove excreta from primary enclosures daily can result in an accumulation of feces which can lead to increased disease hazards, discomfort for the animals, increased odors, and/or attract unwanted pests. Excreta and other waste must be removed from primary enclosures daily to prevent an excessive accumulation of feces, to prevent soiling of the dogs contained in the primary enclosures, and to reduce disease hazards, insects, pests, and odors.
