Dog with microchip #0A02162273, white bichon female, was noticed shaking her head. Upon further examination, both ears have a heavy accumulation of dark brown matter. In addition, this dog has an open sore on her right ear.

Dog with microchip #0A02154170, white bichon female, was noticed shaking her head. Upon further examination, her right ear has a heavy accumulation of dark brown matter. In addition, this dog has open sore on both of her ears. Having ear issues can be painful and irritating to the dog. This cause the dog to scratch, bite or rub the ears and may result in wounds/sores on the ears. Licensee must have methods to prevent, control, diagnose and treat all ear issues. These two dogs must be seen by a licensed veterinarian. Documentation of the examination, diagnoses and treatment must maintained by the licensee and made available for inspection by APHIS officials.

Two dogs were noticed to have ear issues at todays inspection. In addition, several other dogs were noticed to be shaking their heads but had no obvious signs of ear issues. Licensee's wife stated that these issues had not been noticed prior to today's inspection. Issues that are left unnoticed and untreated can cause the animal's unnecessary pain and discomfort. Licensee must have a routine for daily observation and communicate all health issues to the attending veterinarian within a timely manor. Correct By: 7/11/2014

The Licensee maintained an APHIS FORM 7006 with a disposition date of 6/6/2015 with a total of 5 Yorkie puppies (15-317, 15-318, 15-319, 15-320, 15-321). The date of birth listed on the APHIS FORM 7006 for these puppies is 5/8/2015. The Licensee maintained an APHIS FORM 7006 with a disposition date of 6/6/2015 with a total of 6 Llaso puppies (15-326, 15-327, 15-328, 15-329, 15-330, 15-331). The date of birth listed on the APHIS FORM 7006 for these puppies is 5/9/2015. This form also had 6 Bichon puppies (15-336, 15-337, 15-338, 15-339, 15-340, 15-341). The date of birth listed on the APHIS FORM 7006 for these puppies is 5/8/2015. The Licensee stated that the disposition date was written down wrong when the puppies were picked up. However; the inspector was able to retrieve a copy of the buyers APHIS FORM 7006. Both forms maintained the same information and confirmed that all 17 puppies were transported from the facility in commerce to the buyer under the required age and before they were 8 weeks of age. Puppies are subjected to several mental and developmental issues when they are removed from their mother to early. No dog or shall be delivered by any person to any carrier or intermediate handler for transportation, in commerce, or shall be transported in commerce by any person, except to a registered research facility, unless such dog or cat is at least eight (8) weeks of age and has been weaned.

** Female Lhasa Apso #7719 has a moderate amount of reddish-brown thick, greasy debris in both ears. … The debris is matted into some of the hair in the ears forming clumps.

** Female Cavalier #7803 has a large amount of dark brown thick, greasy debris in the right ear. The debris is matted into some of the hair in the ears forming clumps. This dog also has mats in the long hair on the outer ear flap of both ears.

** Male Aussie #4532 has mats along his right thorax, affecting approximately six square inches of his body. The mats are about 1 inch from the skin.

** Female Cavalier #6964 has dense mats on the outer ear flap of both ears.

** Female Cavalier #7688 has a large mat on the outer ear flap of the left ear.

There were 5 stainless steel self-feeders that contained multiple pieces of dog food that were not sufficient for consumption. The pieces of dry dog food had a fuzzy, white-grey material growing on them, which appeared to be mold. Some pieces of food were also caked onto the bottom/sides of the feeder. The enclosures these feeders were attached to house a total of 11 dogs. Having food contaminated by mold in the feeders is problematic in case a dog was to ingest the food, which could cause intestinal upset or other illness. Additionally, non-consumable food could increase the potential for attracting pests and causing unpleasant odors in the kennel. It is unclear when the feeders were last cleaned and sanitized. The applicant disposed of the moldy food and cleaned the feeders at the time of the inspection. Correct by ensuring food fed to the dogs is uncontaminated, wholesome, and palatable.
