Records of administration of anti-parasitic medications for intestinal parasites were not maintained for adult dogs sold and held by the licensee. The written Program of Veterinary Care, signed and dated 6/28/2023, required that pregnant females receive fenbendazole (Pyrantel or Safeguard) once at the time of whelping. The licensee stated that she has been administering the fenbendazole to her adult dogs at the time of whelping, as described in the Program of Veterinary Care; however, she has not been documenting this activity. Medical records are essential for APHIS inspectors to evaluate the quality of medical care provided by the facility and ensure the animals are protected from disease, injury, and illness. The licensee must keep copies of medical records for dogs and make the records available for APHIS inspection. These records must include routine husbandry procedures (such as vaccinations, preventive medical procedures, and treatments) performed an all animals. A bottle of expired Pyrantel (Exp 10/12/2024) was in storage and had been used in regulated animals within the past year. A representative thinks this bottle was purchased new/un-opened within the past year, however the expiration date had not been noticed. The use of expired medications may not be effective or in some cases can make animals sick. Ensure that expired medications are not used in regulated animals. ***Correct from 5/29/2026 forward.
