- Feces piled in Dachshund enclosures
The primary enclosures are not being sufficiently cleaned. Three primary enclosures housing 1 adult Dachshund in each enclosure were observed with excessive piles of excreta throughout the outdoor portion of the enclosures. Two of the enclosures were observed with approximately 15 piles of excreta and the third enclosure was observed with approximately 25 piles of excreta. The excreta observed in these enclosures varied from fresh with a moist appearance to very dry with a whitish appearance. When inquiring with the facility representative how often excreta is removed from enclosures, he stated it was removed weekly from the outdoor section of the enclosures and daily in the indoor portion of the enclosures. Failure to remove excreta from primary enclosures daily can result in an accumulation of excreta which can lead to increased disease hazards, discomfort for the animals, increased odors, and/or attract unwanted pests. Excreta and other waste must be removed from primary enclosures daily to prevent an excessive accumulation of feces, to prevent soiling of the dogs contained in the primary enclosures, and to reduce disease hazards, insects, pests, and odors.
