Housekeeping for premises. Veterinary products are being stored in various locations in the workshop, near stacked feed, on tops of whelping enclosures, and on a table with miscellanous items. Storing veterinary products on tops of whelping boxes or near feed may cause contamination or injury to the dogs if the products fall or spill into enclosures. Veterinary products must be stored in a safe and clean manner such as in a cabinet or on shelves so the products remain relatively clean and safely away from animals, feed, tools, and clutter. Correct by storing veterinary products properly away from animals, feed, tools, and clutter. Correct by November 7, 2014

Some of the records (APHIS form 7006) did not include the method of transportation including the name of the carrier or intermediate handler, or if a privately owner vehicle is used to transport a dog or puppy, the name of the owner of the privately owned vehicle. The method of transport including the name of carrier, intermediate handler, or name of the person if a private owner must be listed on APHIS form 7006 to help keep track of animal shipments. Correct by April 20, 2017.

Storage. There are open bags of food and bedding in the adult building. A bottle of wheat germ oil and another bottle liquid nutritional supplement were stored on top of stacked feed. All open supplies of food and bedding must be kept in leakproof containers with tightly fitting lids to prevent contamination and spoilage. Liquids must not be stored on top of stacked dry dog food. Liquids must be moved to a shelf or cabinet to prevent contamination. Correct by April 29, 2017.

Condition and Site. There is clutter including boxes, tools, bowls, buckets, and dust on top of enclosures on the right side in the whelping building. Animal areas inside of dog housing facilities must be kept neat and free of clutter. Storing items on tops of enclosures can make cleaning more difficult and allow dust and dirt to accumulate. Correct be ensuring that tops of enclosures are free of clutter, dust, and kept neat to maintain a level of general cleanliness to support good animal husbandry and health. Correct by March 14, 2020.

Wardens viewed data logger readings that exceeded 85 degrees in the whelping building since the last inspection.

Wardens viewed an excessive build-up of excreta and dirt in multiple primary enclosures at the adult kennel indicating that they were not cleaned daily or more often if necessary as required by these sections.

Wardens viewed excessive amounts of flies in some primary enclosures at the adult kennel. Wardens also viewed a wheelbarrow located along the outside exercise enclosures that occupied dogs that was filled with excreta and had an abundance of flies in and around it.

Wardens viewed two primary enclosures that occupied dogs that were not large enough for the dogs enclosed therein.

Wardens were unable to view a written certification for a ventilation system sealed by a professional engineer for one building at the kennel.

The ventilation system was not able to be inspected by wardens for one building at the kennel due to not having received a certification for the kennel.

Additionally all circulation and fresh air fans were not in operation until the kennel owner entered the adult building and turned everything on.

Wardens viewed a destroyed kennel logger during this inspection. The kennel stated that it was destroyed by a dog a few weeks prior to this inspection. Wardens revealed that the data logger was actually destroyed in May, 2020. The kennel owner never notified the Department of the destruction of the data logger.

This Warden viewed records indicating the dogs in the kennel were not examined by a veterinarian at least once every 6 months as required.

The current program of veterinary care does not include a sampling program with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian for fleas, worms, coccidia, giardia, and heartworms. Lack a a sampling program makes it difficult to determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan for parasites. A sampling and treatment program with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian must be established to help prevent and maintain an effective parasite program. Correct by May 1, 2022.

There were no dates for the administration of distemper and parvovirus vaccines for the adult dogs. Licensee stated that a 5 way vaccine is given annually to the adult dogs. Failure to keep records on the dates and administration of distemper and parvovirus vaccines to adult dogs makes it difficult to determine when vaccines and treatments were last given. Licensee must keep and maintain records of the names and dates of all vaccines and treatments given to adult dogs. Correct by May 1, 2022.

This is a 1st re-license inspection for a Class A license.

A contingency plan was not developed for this facility. If an emergency or weather related incident occurred animal health could be impacted if the facility was not prepared with a plan. Licensee needs to develop a contingency (emergency) plan for situations that could affect the health and well-being of the animals. Correct by May 29, 2023.

This Warden viewed frequent high/low humidity readings in both kennel buildings since the last inspection. It appeared the equipment in the kennels don't match the current engineer certification. An engineer re-certification is required of the kennel.
