USDA Inspections
USDA inspectors visit licensed dog breeders to check that their facilities meet federal Animal Welfare Act standards — housing, food and water, veterinary care, sanitation, and how the dogs are handled. Each visit produces a public report through the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). For citations, we've included the first sentence of the report. Horrible Hundred
The Humane Society’s “Horrible Hundred” is an annual report that highlights dog breeders across the United States with repeated or serious animal-welfare concerns.
2013: Two nursing boxers were "very thin, with back bones ribs, and hip bones clearly visible." Bull terrier had hair loss and cloudy eyes. Over 200 dogs; repeat violations for unsafe housing, dirty feeders, dogs left outside in cold.
2014: Additional violations during 2013-2014 visits; two dogs in need of veterinary care for injuries. USDA entered pre-litigation settlement; fined $6,643 in September 2013.
2015: Third time. Eight repeat USDA violations (July 2014-March 2015) for hair loss, open wounds, eye problems, unsafe conditions, excessive feces. Kansas inspectors found nursing mother dogs "very thin," dogs without water, insufficient space. February 2015 "no access" violation.
2017: Fourth time. USDA filed complaint for numerous veterinary violations (2015-2014); dogs with leg injuries, scabby pink skin patches, eye disorders, open wounds. Sells to large brokers (Hunte/Choice Puppies, Mosshart).
