What inspectors wrote

March 22, 2023 — Routine inspection, USDA 43-A-6249

40 dogs recorded (24 adults · 16 puppies).

  • Exterior metal walls soiled with feces

There is a mixture of dirt, grease and other excreta accumulating on the exterior metal wall of three enclosures. Eight dogs are in contact with the affected surfaces located in shelter housing. The affected area covers approximately 10 to 50 percent of the exterior wall area. Cleaning of surfaces is necessary to prevent an accumulation of excreta and other disease hazards. This indicates an unsanitary living condition exists that could lead to potential disease or health risks. Surfaces which are not cleaned and sanitized properly increase the risk of disease hazards for the dogs. Cleanliness is important to the health and well-being of the animals. All surfaces of housing facilities must be cleaned and sanitized when necessary to satisfy generally accepted husbandry standards and practices. The licensee must ensure that hard surfaces with which the dogs come in contact must be spot cleaned daily and sanitized in accordance with 3.11 (B) of this sub part to prevent accumulation of excreta and reduce disease hazards. Correct by 3/24/23

  • Heartworm and fecal sampling outdated

The last recorded date of sampling for parasites in the facility’s 22 dogs was 8/3/22. The Program of Veterinary Care states that this licensee must test two dogs in the facility for heartworm disease one time and fecal testing two times every year. Parasite testing according to the sampling plan outlined by the attending veterinarian in the Program of Veterinary care is important for the health of the animals. Heartworm and fecal float testing are done to ensure that there are no internal parasites. Heartworms are serious parasites that are transmitted by mosquito bites. The licensee must ensure that a sampling and treatment of parasites and other pests (including fleas, worms, coccidia, giardia, and heartworm) must be done in accordance with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian. Correct by 12/1/23.
