- Excessive rust on enclosures
In the outdoor section of the sheltered housing facility there are 5 primary enclosures housing 5 adult dogs with excessive rust on the horizontal support poles at the base of the enclosures. The metal in these areas has a roughened and pitted surface with flaking of the metal in some areas. Surfaces in disrepair such as rusted and pitting metal cannot be adequately sanitized and may harbor organic matter or bacteria that can cause illness or poor health in the dogs. Excessive rusting of metal surfaces can also affect the structural strength of the enclosures. The facility must ensure that all surfaces that come into contact with dogs are free of excessive rust that prevents the required cleaning and sanitation, or that affects the structural strength of the surface. Upon inspection the licensee had dogs deemed with a grade one or two dental disease out of four by their veterinarian, the licensee was treating these conditions under veterinary guidance but lacked the documentation. Adult dogs were not tested for intestinal parasites in accordance with the schedule written in the program of veterinary care (PVC). There were no records indicating samples were tested, and the licensee could not locate any records of results since November 2024. The attending veterinarian clinic did not have record of testing performed in 2025 or yet in 2026. Puppies have been tested as directed in the written PVC. Sampling for parasites is important for awareness of parasite load in the dogs and to identify if there is a need for treatment. Correct by following the schedule for sampling for intestinal parasites as indicated in the written PVC. Perform the tests and maintain a copy of the medical record documenting the results.
