The puppy had escaped its primary enclosure and entered the adjacent enclosure of an adult dog. The puppy was found dead in the adjacent enclosure due to injuries sustained by the adult dog. The facility representative stated they believe the puppy was able to slip through the gaps between the bars that act as the wall separating adjacent enclosures in the outdoor section of the sheltered housing facility. The adult dog has since been moved to a different section of the kennel away from any enclosures that are currently housing puppies. Enclosures which do not contain animals safely and securely can result in fighting, injuries, and even death to the dogs. The licensee must ensure housing facilities for dogs must be designed and constructed so they are structurally sound. They must be kept in good repair, contain the animals securely, and restrict other animals from entering.
