- Strong ammonia smell, 50-100 PPM
Wardens noticed a strong smell of ammonia when entering the kennel. Ammonia strips were utilized, and an ammonia level of 50 -100 PPM was documented. There was a fan running in the kennel and the kennel owner quickly opened the large garage door which allowed the level to decrease during the inspection.
- Overgrown grass and weeds
Wardens viewed overgrown and unkept foliage, grass and weeds on the kennel grounds in the exercise areas adjoining the kennel which could encourage pests.
- Dogs with chronic infections, long nails
Several dogs were observed to have clinical signs of chronic infections in their ears, eyes and/or mouths. There were also multiple dogs with long toenails. The kennel owner did have veterinary records for some of these dogs, showing that they were under the care of a veterinarian.
- Vet exams ordered for six dogs
A veterinary examination was ordered on six (6) dogs under section 402(a) based on Wardens’ observations of the condition of the dog during the inspection. The kennel is in compliance with section 402(d) because the veterinary examinations were completed within 72 hours.
