• Female guinea pig in pen #59 eye crusting

  One female guinea pig was housed in pen #59. The right eye was being held partially closed and had brown crusty debris on the upper and lower lid accumulating in the corner of the eye closest to the nose.

• Guinea pig in pen #31 eye crusting

  One white and tan guinea pig was present in pen #31. The left eye was being held partially closed and had brown crusty debris on the hair surrounding the entire eye.

• Guinea pig in pen #32 bleeding wound near tail

  One black and white guinea pig was in pen #32. This guinea pig had an area on the back end near the tail that had blood on it. The hair was matted down with a pink - bloody discharge, and there was blood observed on some of the shavings inside the pen.

• Guinea pig in pen #22 chin lumps

  One white and brown guinea pig was in pen #22. There was two golf ball sized lumps observed under and extending out on both sides of its chin.

• Guinea pig in pen #16 eye crusting

  One white and tan guinea pig with a black face was housed in pen #16. This guinea pig's right and left eyes were held partially closed and had brown crusty debris.

• Guinea pig in pen #17 chin lump

  One brown guinea pig with a white face was housed in pen #17. There was a golf ball sized lump observed under its chin.

• Female guinea pig in pen #10 chin lumps

  One tank and black female guinea pig was housed in pen #10. There was a golf ball sized lump observed under both sides of its chin.

• Euthanasia procedure changed without vet approval

  The amount of injectable solution for euthanasia prescribed by the attending veterinarian was not followed by the licensee. The licensee made changes to the procedure without the attending veterinarian's approval. The inspector spoke with the attending veterinarian. The attending veterinarian was not comfortable with the changes made by the licensee and does not approve the changes. Improper methods of euthanasia can cause pain and distress to the animal. Not following the directions of the attending veterinarian does not ensure adequate veterinary care. The licensee shall assure that the attending veterinarian has appropriate authority to ensure the provisions of adequate veterinary care and to oversee the adequacy of other aspects of animal care and use.
