Sec. 2.40 Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (b)(2) A male Yorkshire Terrier ID 4941517469 had a long unkempt hair coat with loose mats covering his face and body. The hair surrounding his eyes was wet and a dark crust that held the hair close to his eyes. Matted hair can cause discomfort to the animal. Long facial hair and facial matts are an irritation to the eyes that may result in injury or infection of the eye. The licensee shall provide adequate veterinary care which includes routine grooming using a proactive approach that prevents mats from forming. TO BE CORRECTED BY : 4/14/14

*A female Beagle (Tattoo # 1402) named "Apple" had a hard, golf ball size mass on her back. The licensee was not aware of the mass and was unsure how long it had been present.

** A female Beagle (Mc # 46594A2E31) named "Betsy" had a large mass on the right side of her stomach. This mass was identified by the attending veterinarian during a hands on examination as a " hernia right side" 11 months prior, on April 24, 2014.

*** A female Beagle (Mc # 445PO5266B) named "Blonde" had a large mass on her stomach. This mass was identified by the attending veterinarian during a hands on examination as a " large hernia " 11 months prior, on April 24, 2014.

**** A female Yorkshire Terrier (Mc# 49663A2A61) named "Reen" had a small mass in her left mammary area. This mass was identified by the attending veterinarian during a hands on examination as a " small breast cancer " 11 months prior, on April 24, 2014.

***** A female Yorkshire Terrier (Mc# 482E062346) named "Lucy" had a large mass on the right side of her stomach. This mass was identified by the attending veterinarian during a hands on examination as a " large hernia " 11 months prior, on April 24, 2014.

These dogs were also marked unsound for breeding. However, these females are still housed with males.

No treatment plan was recorded.

Sec. 3.6 Primary enclosures (a)(2)(i) There were two enclosures with holes in the coated wire flooring. The broken wires from these holes were protruding upward into the floor of the enclosures making sharp points that could injure the dogs. The licensee shall ensure that all primary enclosures are kept in good repair and free from sharp points. TO BE CORRECTED BY: 4/1/2015

Sec. 3.11 Cleaning, sanitization, housekeeping, and pest control.(b)(2) There were 5 water buckets in the outdoor housing area that were dirty and had green algae covering their inside surfaces. Dirty water receptacles are a disease risk. The licensee shall ensure water receptacles are sanitized at least once every 2 weeks using one of the methods prescribed in paragraph (b)(3) of this section, and more often if necessary to prevent an accumulation of dirt, debris, food waste, excreta, and other disease hazards. An adult female Beagle (m/c# 4812710C39) was missing a large amount of hair on her rump, tail, and chest. The skin in these hairless areas on her rump and chest were moist, reddened, and had numerous tiny scabs. The skin on her tail was dry and scaly. The licensee had not sought veterinary care for this dog and was not treating the skin condition.

A male Yorkshire terrier (m/c#494-151-7460) had few teeth remaining, but there was a buildup of a hard, brown substance on the teeth he did have.

A female Maltese (m/c# 095 627 602) had a buildup of a hard, greenish-brown substance on her teeth that was so thick that all the individual teeth could not be seen.

A female Yorkshire terrier (m/c# 091 312 883) repetitively licked her lips and moved her mouth. She had a severe buildup of hard brown material on her teeth; her gums were reddened along her teeth. During the inspection, a molar tooth fell out of her mouth.

The licensee stated that none of the dogs had received dental care in two years even though the Attending Veterinarian had noted that 42 dogs needed dental cleaning on his last visit to the facility.

Several dogs had excessively long toenails: a female Beagle (m/c# 4812710C39), a female Beagle named Biscuit (no other ID), a female Maltese (m/c# 095 627 602), and a female Maltese (m/c# 050304787).

One, of the two florescent lights in the indoor portion of the sheltered housing area is not working. There is not sufficient light in this area of the facility to perform the daily tasks of caring for the dogs or to access their well-being. Adequate light is needed to maintain good housekeeping practices, adequately clean, adequately inspect the animals, and for the well-being of the animals. The licensee shall provide adequate light to permit routine inspection and cleaning of the facility, and observation of the dogs, as well as to provide a regular diurnal lighting cycle for the dogs. There was tall grass and weeds along the fence-line and around the edges of the outdoor housing areas. Tall grass and weeds provide optimal breeding grounds for rodents and pests. The licensee shall control weeds, grasses, and bushes so as to facilitate cleaning of the premises and pest control, and to protect the health and well-being of the animals. Several dogs were noted during the last inspection for excessively long toenails. While it appeared that a portion of the long nails had been removed, each of the dogs still had excessively long nails on a portion of their digits: a female Beagle (m/c# 4812710C39), a female Beagle named Biscuit (no other ID), a female Maltese (m/c# 095 627 602), and a female Maltese (m/c# 050304787).

A female Yorkshire Terrier (4943133E1A) was exhibiting a green, crusty discharge on the edges of the eyelids of the left eye. Upon closer examination of the eye, the surface of the eye appeared dry and the entire conjunctiva was red. The licensee was not aware of the eye problem and had not consulted a veterinarian about it.

Some of the dogs were exhibiting some soiling of the hair coat around the eyes, mouth, inguinal area, and rectum. The three month old puppies had balls of fecal material attached to the hair coat around the anus.
