A female French Bulldog ID #30 has a quarter sized raised area on the right front leg. The quarter sized area was on the front of the leg and was raised about 1/4 inch. The skin in this area was a purplish red, with some hair on this spot. The licensee stated the dog had been in a fight and was treating a wound on the ear, but didn't notice the spot on the leg. Wounds on the dogs can cause pain and discomfort. The licensee must consult with a veterinarian about this dogs condition. To be.

At least 80% of the self feeders have excessive chew damage present around the rim of the trough area. There are 2 enclosures utilizing a piece of plastic to maintain a whelping area that had excessive chew damage. This has led to multiple jagged edges around these fixtures causing them to be unable to be readily cleaned and sanitized. Jagged edges can also potentially cause injury to the dogs. At least 80% of the primary enclosures that contained carpets used for whelping mats had frayed edges and were excessively worn. Frayed edges can be potentially injurious to the dogs whether ingested or if they were to wrap around the extremities. Ensure that all surfaces in contact with the dogs can be readily cleaned and sanitized or replaced when worn or soiled.

There are a total of 3 outdoor enclosures at this facility, housing a total of 13 dogs, that had water receptacles which contained an approximate 2 inch layer of ice at the top of the bowl. The facility representative stated she put fresh water in them this morning but due to local temperatures the water had already frozen. Without continuous access to water the dogs are at risk of dehydration which can lead to other medical issues. Ensure potable water be continuously available to the dogs.

The facility has not conducted fecal testing in accordance with a schedule approved by the attending veterinarian. Failure to conduct sampling and treatment for parasites and other pests can lead to a delay in treatment for animals in the facility.

There was an excessive accumulation of a brown film of organic matter dusted with white powder coating the inside walls of a plastic storage tub used for dog food storage. It is not known when this tub was last cleaned and sanitized. Residues accumulating in food storage receptacles may be a source of spoiling, contamination, or spread of disease from food fed to the regulated animals. The licensee must ensure that food receptacles be cleaned as often as needed to prevent accumulation of debris, food waste, etc.

All of the enclosures in the indoor housing facility have an excessive accumulation of hair wrapped around wires of the paneling. This organic debris hangs approximately 2" from the bottom of the wires. Accumulation of organic debris can harbor disease agents which the regulated animals may come into contact with. It can also be a fire hazard, attract insects, and/or emit odors. The licensee must clean the primary enclosures as often as necessary to prevent the accumulation of hair and other debris in order to reduce diseases, hazards, insects, and odors.
