The PVC prescribes the use of Ivermectin monthly (in dogs over 6 months of age) for heartworm prevention. It also prescribes administering pyrantel every 3-4 months for the prevention and control of intestinal parasites in adult dogs. The licensee is not currently performing these preventative practices. Internal parasites in dogs can be contagious and may cause diarrhea, coughing, vomiting, weight loss, and distress. Some internal parasites are even zoonotic (which means they can be passed to humans). Each dealer must follow an appropriate PVC for dogs, which includes sampling and treatment of parasites, in accordance with a schedule approved by the Attending Veterinarian. Correct by discussing the use of anti-parasitic medications with the AV at the next kennel appointment or by July 26, whichever comes first, and then from that day forward."},{"h":"Deworming not documented","tags":[],"q":"The licensee has not properly documented deworming medication given to the adult dogs. The licensee reports he usually gives a yearly dose of Panacur to the adult dogs on the same day he gives the distemper/parvovirus and Rabies vaccines. These vaccinations were given in April 2023, however, there is no indication of Panacur having been given. Proper documentation of treatments performed is important for evaluating the efficacy of a preventative care program, as well as ensuring the completeness of medical records of dogs kept at the facility. Each dealer must keep and retain copies of medical records for dogs including the names of all treatments administered and dates of administration.
